BSAC focuses on community during the holidays

Every year, the Business Student Advisory Council organizes a canned good drive in order to give back to the community. This year, during the week of October 24 through 28, faculty, students and staff all participated in the drive, bringing in donations of canned food, other nonperishable items and cash.

The drive is conducted to benefit the Oxford Community Choice Pantry, which needs more donations this time of year in order to prepare to help more people during the holidays. This year, the BSAC really outdid themselves. The group raised $528 and collected 130 pounds of food to deliver to the Oxford Community Choice Pantry

According to BSAC VP of Service Megan Schulte, the drive was a breeze - there were lots of volunteers willing to help run the information booth set up in the commons and take the goods over to the Pantry. Prizes went to both the highest individual donor and to the B-Org that gave the most. Senior economics major Jill O’Bryan and Delta Sigma Pi came out to be the highest donors, so they won a chipotle gift card and pizza party respectively.

“I have always seen the value in giving back to your local community,” Megan said. “It really brings people together.”

The canned food drive also serves to remind us all that our community needs our help, Megan noted. “We have our own community in Farmer, but I think sometimes people forget about the larger community around us in Oxford, especially during the holidays.”
