January 2017

The Center for Analytics and Data Science (CADS) at Miami University is honored to announce the generosity of Procter & Gamble via a $10,000 grant in partial support of the CADS 2017 DataFest event.

DataFest is an annual weekend-long data analysis competition organized by the American Statistical Association. Miami’s version of the event is hosted by CADS and includes teams of students from Miami and other universities in the region to demonstrate their knowledge and grasp of big data analytics. Teams of students are given a large, rich, complex data set and spend a weekend analyzing it to derive key insights, which at the end of the weekend, they present to a panel of industry judges.

This year, DataFest at Miami University will be held from April 7 to 9 in the Farmer School of Business. Allison Jones-Farmer, Van Andel Professor of Business Analytics and Faculty Director of CADS, stated: “The CADS team is excited that P&G will be a part of Miami’s second annual DataFest competition. Industry support and collaboration are keystones of the CADS mission to transform undergraduate education in Analytics and Data Science.”

CADS is a multidisciplinary effort to bring together students and faculty from across the university, including from departments such as Information Systems and Analytics, Statistics, Computer Science, Marketing and Accountancy. The Center strives to provide an innovative environment where students and faculty can work together to in the fields of analytics and data science. As data becomes a driving force in much of our modern world, CADS provides a collaborative environment to build the problem solvers of the future.
