Fadel Megahed head shotThe research that a Farmer School information systems and analytics professor has done on wearable devices, fatigue, and safety has proven to be a popular news topic.

Dr. Fadel Megahed has been a co-investigator for a three-year research project with researchers at the University at Buffalo, Auburn University, University of Dayton, and Saint Louis University as they attempted to find ways to use wearable technology to measure worker fatigue on the job. The research successfully found ways to use wearable devices for fatigue prediction.

The final research report was published by the American Society of Safety Professionals last month, and articles about the research were published this week in more than 30 newspapers and online news sites such as the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, and Yahoo! Finance. It was also mentioned in a WGN Radio news report and on Bloomberg.

Megahed and his fellow researchers hope that these findings will be a first step toward creating and building systems to reduce workplace injuries and incidents related to fatigue.
