Return to Campus Guide

Health and Safety

Each person in our community—students, faculty, staff, and visitors—must take steps to keep us all as healthy as possible. In this section of the website, you will find our health and wellness expectations, protocols, and resources that will be in place this fall.

Social and Physical Distancing

Be aware of your surroundings and leave space for others. Maintain physical distance.

Face Masks and Facial Coverings

Wear a face mask or facial covering when you leave your residence.

Testing and Contact Tracing

Do a symptom self-assessment every day. If you have symptoms, stay home. Call your doctor or Student Health Services for next steps.

Quarantine or Isolation

Space has been set aside on campus to care for students with symptoms who test positive for COVID-19 or are awaiting results.

Mental Health

Miami University is committed to providing high-quality, accessible counseling and psychological services to students, and consultation to families, faculty, and staff.

Cleaning protocols

Every member of our community plays a role in keeping our spaces clean and sanitized.

University and Personal Travel

All domestic and international University sponsored or supported travel for faculty, staff, and students has been canceled until December 31, 2020. Closely evaluate the risks of all personal travel (domestic or international) and review the new guidelines.

My Pledge to the Community

Details will be released in mid-July. As a part of a community, it is the responsibility of all of us to help each other be as healthy as possible. Individual actions matter. As students enter the Miami community, they will be asked to make a commitment to the actions they will take.

Campus Policies and Guidelines

There will be many changes on campus this fall, in and out of the classroom. In this section, you'll find details about policies and guidelines for the academic environment and co-curricular experiences that are being put in place on campus to help us reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission.

Academics and Course Delivery

Our faculty will deliver meaningful courses in a variety of formats that enable students to make progress toward graduation and give opportunities for deep and engaged learning.

Keeping a Healthy Workplace*

Some employees have already returned to campus to work. Others will be returning in July as needed with the last week of July set for the majority of employees to return using staggered work schedules when appropriate.

Research*

We are taking a phased approach to re-starting labs and studios, with detailed guidance and supporting materials provided to facilitate a safe return to labs and studios. Check back frequently for more information.

Living On and Off Campus

Students spend much of their time outside of the classroom, and keeping healthy where you live will require new habits and responsibilities for the fall.

Dining On Campus

Food and beverage changes are being implemented to promote a healthy and safe dining experience on campus.

Activities and Student Engagement

Student involvement is a key component of the Miami experience. It will be different — and rewarding — in fall 2020.

Visitors and Events

Visitors are asked to limit their trips to campus to essential visits and follow all university healthy and safety guidelines.

Athletics

We will follow the guidelines from the National Collegiate Athletic Association and the Mid-American Conference when available. Check back for more information.

Sustainability at Miami

The overall principle guiding the safe return to campus is to protect the health of our community.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

COVID-19 impacts different populations in different ways. We want to do all we can to keep our community healthy, both physically and emotionally.
