Lifeguard
General Function
Provides safe swimming environment by enforcing rules and policies and respond to aquatic emergencies. This position also requires the completion of accident and incident forms.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities—Essential Functions
- Perform water rescues to include back boarding, passive and active victim rescues.
- Perform CPR and rescue breathing.
- Perform first aid to include inline stabilization, apply ice, and bandages.
- Enforce rules and regulations designed for safe use of the Aquatic Center.
- Perform BBP clean up.
- Complete accident and incident reports.
Reporting Relationships
Direction Received: Reports to Assistant Director or Director.
Direction Given: May provide instruction to student employees.
Minimum Requirements
Current American Red Cross Lifeguard certification or equivalent; current CPR for Professional Rescuer certification or equivalent.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics
- Ability to make good decisions in emergency situations
- Knowledge of water hazards, lifesaving techniques and first aid
Working Conditions
Physical effort requires proficient swimming ability and the ability to properly extract victims from the pool to the deck. Frequent sitting, standing, kneeling and stooping.
