Fitness 4 Life

Taking activity breaks in your workday can help you feel more energetic, improve mood/concentration, enhance sleep, and decrease risk of chronic disease, illness and injury. No-cost Fitness 4 Life programs are offered for all faculty and staff, regardless of benefit eligibility, and spouses covered under Miami's health plan.

Miami offers free workshops for all Miami faculty and staff with a valid Miami ID.


Classic ballet movements meets new age balance and dance, in this dynamic new class intended to improve range of motion, increase flexibility, and help you gain strength.  Different equipment will be utilized including small hand weights, balls, resistance bands, ballet barres and more.  Barefoot or socks required.

A group cycling class which offers a motivating fitness environment with empowering music and pedaling challenges. You’ll find yourself having a blast while you ride your way to a healthier, stronger body. The Spinning® bikes used in this workshop can be customized to each individual and all fitness levels. Sign in at the Rec Center Pro Shop.

Intro to Pickleball

Pickleball is a paddle sport created for all ages and skill levels that combines many elements of Tennis, Badminton and Ping-pong. This workshop introduces you to the rules and skills of pickleball. The first two weeks consist of instruction from an experienced Pickleball player and the last four weeks consists of playing the game with other players.

Cardio and Strengthening

Hip Hop

Athletic, simple, and fun choreography makes this dance–inspired workout anything but routine. Let’s get up and dance!

Where: Chestnut Fieldhouse - 131 Chestnut Street, Oxford, OH

This high energy class uses choreographed punches and kicks in a fun, intense, and no–contact workout. It is a great work out and accessible to all levels.

Cardio Tone

Total Body Tone in interval format. Each exercise will emphasize muscular strength, muscular endurance, aerobic conditioning, or a combination of all three.

Mind and Body


Practice this Korean self–defense art and you will acquire basic hand and foot abilities while developing self defense skills of falling, rolling, breakaways, and locking/pinning techniques. All skill levels are welcome to learn how the coordination of mind and body relieves stress and trains a valuable set of skills.

Need a weekly stress break? Research has proven a regular meditation practice can improve memory, mental focus, blood pressure, and coping with stress. In this workshop you will be guided through a brief meditation and leave feeling refreshed and renewed. Practices will cover the basics of guided relaxation, breathing, and meditation.

Perform mat exercises the target abdominal and lower back muscles. This class is designed to enhance posture and body awareness by developing a balance between muscular strength and flexibility.

When: Tuesdays, 12:10-12:55 p.m.


This traditional instruction will teach basic hand and foot techniques and stances. These skills are then merged into connected movements that develop flexibility, strength, and balance. It is a class for all skill levels designed to provide physical and mental development while having fun and relieving stress.

When: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6:00–7:00 p.m.


Yoga’s benefits include releasing tight muscles, strengthening and stress management. These welcoming classes are appropriate for both new beginners and experienced participants. Classes include movement, holding poses, breath awareness and guided relaxation. Modifications will be offered. Come early to your first class and meet the instructor.

Fitness Centers

We offer free, no-cost fitness centers for all Miami faculty and staff with a valid Miami ID. Centers include treadmills, elliptical trainers, stationary bikes, strength training machines, free weights, and more. All fitness levels are welcome, and you can join any time.


The Hamilton campus fitness center is located in the Gym weight room. Closed on 5/28 and 7/4.

The Middletown campus fitness center is located in the Bennett Recreation Center. Closed 5/28 and 7/4.

Fitness Center will be closed Monday, 6/4-Friday 6/15 for renovations.

Participants are welcome to use the Rec Sports Center in place of PHI 113 during this time period.  Please bring your Miami faculty/staff or UMR ID and let the pass desk know you are with the Fitness for Life Program.
