Winter and Spring Fitness 4 Life

Taking activity breaks during your workday can help you feel more energetic, improve mood/concentration, and enhance sleep in the evening. No-cost Fitness 4 Life programs are offered for all faculty, staff and graduate students, regardless of benefit eligibility, and spouses covered under Miami's health plan. Please complete our annual online Wellness Program Waiver before attending a Fitness 4 Life program.

Fitness Classes

Cardio Tone

Flow through a variety of total body toning exercises with brief rest intervals in between. Each exercise will emphasize muscular strength, muscular endurance, aerobic conditioning, or a combination of all three.

Core 25

Let's strengthen your core with twenty-five minutes of core exercises focused on just your upper and lower back as well as abdominals.  Welcome to all levels and modifications provided if necessary

Hip Hop

Athletic, simple, and fun choreography makes this dance–inspired workout anything but routine. Let’s get up and dance!

Need a weekly stress break? Research suggests a regular meditation practice can improve memory, mental focus, blood pressure, and ability to cope with stress. In this class you will be guided through a brief meditation and leave feeling refreshed and renewed.

Pilates is designed to enhance posture and body awareness by developing a balance between muscular strength and flexibility.

Power Aquatics

A shallowwater aquatics class that is designed to be more than your average water aerobics class.  It is a fast paced 45 minute class that consists of a combination of new, fast and aerobic exercies. A variety of aerobic movements are performed in the pool to increase heart rate and provide both a cardiovascular and strength training workout. This class is in the shallow end of the pool (do not need to worry about getting hair or makeup wet). Register here or sign in at the Rec Center Pro Shop.

This traditional instruction will teach basic hand and foot techniques and stances. These skills are then merged into connected movements that develop flexibility, strength, and balance. It is a class for all skill levels designed to provide physical and mental development while having fun and relieving stress.

Team Miami

Want to walk/jog/run a 5k?  Need motivation to go from the couch to a 5k?  Come to Team Miami Plus, a 10-week training program leading up to the Annual Red Brick Run.  Register online.

Winter Term Curling

Join us and learn to Curl at Goggin Ice Rink!  Offered for 4 weeks. Have fun with friends and learn a new sport to participate in throughout life.  Wear long pants and athletic shoes.  All other needed equipment will be supplied.  Sign up at Goggin Pro Shop.

Yoga’s benefits include releasing tight muscles, strengthening and stress management. These welcoming classes are appropriate for both new beginners and experienced participants. Classes include movement, holding poses, breath awareness and guided relaxation. Modifications will be offered.

Fitness Centers

We offer free, no-cost fitness centers for all faculty, staff, graduate students, retirees/emeriti regardless of benefit eligibility with Miami ID, and spouses covered under Miami's health plan (health insurance card as ID). Centers include treadmills, elliptical trainers, stationary bikes, strength training machines, free weights, and more. All fitness levels are welcome, and you can join any time.

This Free Trial Membership is an opportunity for Miami Faculty, staff, emeritus, retirees, and spouses to try out the Recreational Sports Center while Phillips Hall, 113 is closed for winter break.

Register online with the Rec Center. From this link, select REC memberships, then Fitness 4 Life Winter 4 Free, and then login (or create an account) to register. Or stop at the Pro Shop and they can sign you up on the sport before you workout.
