Campus Care
Need to debrief about current international and national events? Want to speak with a mental health counselor without scheduling a therapy session? This fall, Student Counseling Service (SCS) will provide 'Campus Care', an opportunity for Miami students to informally debrief and process elevated emotions they may be experiencing related to tense or difficult happenings in the world, our country, or on campus.
Students meet with a trained mental health professional in an informal, convenient setting. Campus Care is staffed by an SCS clinician who will provide space to compassionately hear your experiences and concerns in a neutral space.
Campus Care is a "drop-in" service held twice per week; no appointment is necessary and there is no fee. Students are seen on a first-come, first-served basis typically in a small group format.
When discerning if Campus Care may be helpful for you, please keep these things in mind:
- Campus Care is not therapy. It's a free, drop-in, informal service.
- If your experience of distress is so elevated that you do not feel comfortable waiting to participate in a Campus Care session, consider scheduling an appointment with SCS or contact Miami's HOPE Line at 855-249-5649, which is available 24/7.
- Campus Care is only available to Miami students and is not available for Miami parents, faculty, or staff.
- When attending Campus Care, it's possible that multiple people may be in attendance, perhaps with disparate views or beliefs. While the SCS clinician will manage the dynamics in the room to ensure the climate remains respectful, Campus Care attendees should be prepared to possibly experience views different from their own.
