Miami University's Graduate Special Education Program offers the online coursework needed to earn intervention specialist licensure in as few as 10 months and a master's degree in 14 to 24 months. The four program pathways are: 

  • Ohio Special Education License Only (25 credit hours) 
  • M.Ed. without Licensure (30 credit hours)
    — Designed for students who already hold an existing Intervention Specialist license or are pursuing alternative licensure
  • M.Ed. plus Special Education Licensure (37 credit hours) 
  • M.Ed. plus Initial Teaching Licensure (49 credit hours)

To apply for our Graduate Special Education Program, you'll need:

  • A four-year baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution (with at least a 2.75 grade point average)
  • College transcripts
  • Copy of teaching license (licensure-only applicants)
  • Personal statement describing reasons for pursuing a career in special education and one's ability to complete online coursework
  • Resume/CV
  • One (1) professional letter of recommendation, preferably from someone in the field of education

Applicants seeking their first teaching license must apply for the special education master's degree program. Coursework will include the courses necessary to earn an intervention specialist's license.

Applicants who have teaching licenses in a field other than special education may choose to apply for the master's degree or the licensure-only option.
