Welcome to the Department of Interdisciplinary and Communication Studies (ICS)!

We focus on providing our students with an interdisciplinary educational experience designed to help them achieve personal, educational, and professional goals. The ICS Department offers majors in Communication Studies, Health Communication, Integrative Studies, and Liberal Studies. An interdisciplinary focus helps students achieve expertise as critical, creative, and reflective thinkers, self-directed problem-solvers, communicators, collaborators and integrators, as well as specific content knowledge in a variety of areas.

Our classes are offered at Miami University’s regional campuses in Hamilton, Middletown, and the Voice of America Learning Center. In addition, many of our classes are also offered online. We also advise and offer Global and Intercultural Studies Department (College of Arts and Sciences, Oxford) courses at the regional campuses.

Feel free to explore our website to learn more about ICS majors and course offerings. The ICS faculty are also available for advising assistance.

The Department of Interdisciplinary and Communication Studies (ICS) aims to provide students with a rigorous background in their chosen major, the ability to connect and synthesize knowledge and skills from multiple sources and experiences, apply knowledge and skills in varied settings, analyze diverse points of view, develop an appreciation for intercultural competence and respect for human identity and diversity, and understand issues contextually.

Regardless of the selected degree, majors housed within ICS allow students to pursue coursework from multiple fields of study, departments, and disciplines, make connections among them and pursue a degree program that meets their career, educational, or personal goals.
