Nursing students working on one another

Criminal Background Check

Most of the clinical agencies with which we affiliate are requiring annual satisfactory criminal record checks for all students who come to clinical practice. Two background checks must be completed: one by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation (BCII) and one by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Note: See important Criminal Records Check statement (left).

The Ohio Board of Nursing denies applicants the opportunity to be licensed as a registered nurse for certain criminal offenses and will conduct an investigation to determine eligibility for certain other offenses. Moreover, many of the agencies with which Miami University's Department of Nursing places students may have more stringent standards.  Since clinical experiences are required for successful completion of the nursing major, successful completion of the nursing program may be difficult or impossible for those students who possess a criminal history.

Being admitted to the program is contingent upon a satisfactory criminal record check for the baccalaureate degree program.
