Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology

Associate Degree | College of Liberal Arts and Applied Science

What is Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology?

The Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology (ECET) program includes course work in both electrical and electronic fields. It provides depth and breadth in electrical fundamentals as well as the advanced technology found in modern electrical and computing systems.

What are the features of Miami’s program?

The Department of Engineering Technology, traces its origin to about half a century ago. The courses that are offered in this department (only in Middletown and Hamilton Campuses) are more applied and less math-intensive compared to engineering degrees. Most of the engineering classes are held in the evenings, which provides this opportunity to our student to work full-time during the day. Most of our students are wither already employed, or participate in our co-op program. Close to 100% of our students have a job or have secured a job before they graduate.

What are the special admission requirements, if any?

There are no additional admission requirements for this program.

What courses would I take?

Students have the opportunity to take courses in analog, digital, and microprocessor-based systems. Hands-on labs reinforce concepts taught in the classroom. Students develop the ability to analyze, synthesize and solve technical problems.

Choice of course topics includes:

  • Circuit analysis and analog electronics
  • Digital systems
  • Programmable controllers,
  • Microprocessor
  • Personal computer architecture
  • Local area networks (LAN) and wide area networks (WAN).

What can I do with this major?

Graduates of the program work as electronic technicians, electrical maintenance technicians, computer maintenance and network technicians, engineering assistants, and other related paraprofessional positions. Graduates may also continue their education toward a Bachelor of Applied Science Degree. See Miami University's Engineering Technology Bachelor Completion degrees for details.
