Mechanical Engineering Technology

Degree

Associate Degree | College of Liberal Arts and Applied Science

What is Mechanical Engineering Technology?

The Mechanical Engineering Technology program emphasizes courses in computer aided drafting (CAD), computer aided engineering analysis and design, computer aided manufacturing (CAM), computer numerical control programming (CNC), and engineering mechanics.

What are the features of Miami’s program?

The Department of Engineering Technology, traces its origin to about half a century ago. The courses that are offered in this department (only in Middletown and Hamilton Campuses) are more applied and less math-intensive compared to engineering degrees. Most of the engineering classes are held in the evenings, which provides this opportunity to our student to work full-time during the day. Most of our students are wither already employed, or participate in our co-op program. Close to 100% of our students have a job or have secured a job before they graduate.

What are the special admission requirements, if any?

There are no additional admission requirements for this program.

What courses would I take?

Mechanical Engineering Technology students develop the ability to analyze, synthesize, and solve technical problems. This program provides a solid foundation of mathematics, physics, and computer applications. The program also provides breadth through required studies in economics, communications, and liberal arts.

The engineering courses include laboratory experiences working with modern materials testing equipment; CAD/CAM hardware and software; microprocessor-controlled manufacturing systems, 3D printing and a variety of engineering support software.

What can I do with this major?

Graduates work as Engineering Technicians within manufacturing related areas such as testing, analysis, design, and development of products. Graduates may also continue their education toward a Bachelor of Science in Applied Science degree. See Miami University's Engineering Technology Bachelor Completion degrees for details.
