Speaker talks to audience at Miami Hamilton Downtown

Center for Civic Engagement

The Center for Civic Engagement at Miami Hamilton is grounded in public life. We are proud to offer comprehensive support to students, faculty and staff in order to address local community issues through volunteerism, service-learning, experiential learning and civic engagement opportunities. Our staff works to ensure reciprocal partnerships with over 100 local nonprofit and community organizations in the greater Hamilton area, in order to build these engaging experiences.

The Center's main focus is to actively engage in our local communities by providing programs to meet the civic educational needs of our citizens and to work collaboratively with community partners to identify and address community issues. We will work directly with you to learn more about your interests, skills and talents—and ensure an appropriate match to a local community need.

The Center for Civic Engagement also houses several unique entities that contribute to the civic discourse of our community. Specifically, we support and operate the Democracy Wall, a free speech space, on the Hamilton Campus. In addition, the Center manages the operation of the Miami University Hamilton Downtown location, which offers education, arts, and civic programming in the urban core of our city. For civic dialogue and deliberation work, the Center is also designated as a Center for Public Life through the Kettering Foundation as well as a Network Partner for the National Issues Forum Institute.

For public work within the community, Miami University Hamilton was awarded the 2010 Community Engagement Classification from the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.
