SOAR (Student Orientation, Advising, and Registration) is the new student orientation program at Miami Regionals. Accepted students are sent information that directs them to visit the "Regional Student Checklist" by logging into their myMiami account to register for any applicable assessments and their SOAR program. You must know your UniqueID and password to login to myMiami.

At SOAR, students will:

  • Receive a campus tour;
  • Learn how to get involved;
  • Discover campus resources available to students;
  • Meet current and incoming Miami Regionals students;
  • Meet one–on–one with a faculty or staff advisor; and
  • Register for classes.

The SOAR program is geared toward new students only. Parents, family members, and friends should not attend, as students will be in small groups with other students for the duration of the program. These support people are invited to attend a separate Parent and Family Orientation at a later date on the Hamilton or Middletown campus.

No financial transactions are made at orientation. The fee for attending SOAR is added to your bill.

Preparing for SOAR

  • Students who have confirmed their enrollment at Miami Regionals should follow the Regional Student Checklist located on myMiami to sign up for SOAR.
  • Make sure you know your UniqueID (ex: smithjq) and password. Complete Financial Agreement and Emergency Contact Information in BannerWeb. (Log in via myMiami.)
  • If you plan to take a foreign language course, you must first take the foreign language placement test. (Get there via myMiami.)
  • If you plan to get a parking pass, please bring your license plate number.
  • Prepare for advising and registration by visiting the New Student Guidebook. Review the Guidebook for helpful details about registration and advising, including lists of typical first semester courses. You will receive a printed copy of the New Student Guidebook at orientation, but don't wait until then to browse requirements and available courses in your academic division.
  • Write down some courses that sound interesting.

Attending SOAR

  • Attendees can park in any parking spot that is not designated for faculty/staff or guests. You can sign up for a parking pass at orientation as a parking pass is not required the day of orientation.
  • Pizza is provided for a meal during the middle of orientation. If you have dietary restrictions, please indicate this on your orientation registration.
  • When you arrive on campus, you will see signs pointing you to the proper check-in locations. Check-in for Hamilton orientations will occur in the Wilks Conference Center. Check-in for Middletown orientations will occur in the Campus & Community Center in Johnston Hall.
  • Orientation occurs rain or shine.
  • You should plan to attend the entire orientation- the program is not an open house. Please arrive on time.
