Alternative Breaks

Important Dates

Participant Applications Open: Monday, January 29

Spring Break: March 19-23

Alternative Breaks are unique multi-day immersion experiences focused on important community needs. Co-sponsored by International Student & Scholar Services and the Office of Student Activities, our first Alternative Spring Break took place during 2017. The inaugural program spanned 3 days and engaged 19 student participants in service in our local communities of Oxford, Hamilton, and Cincinnati.

Based on feedback from student participants, we are expanding the program for spring break 2018. We will be offering a similar 3-day local program while also offering a 6-day non-local trip. During the trips, students will participate in community service, educational opportunities, daily reflections, leadership development, evening debriefs, and topical discussions. Alternative Breaks are guided by a curriculum that promotes self-awareness, global citizenship and leadership through community engagement. Each team will engage in pre-trip education, preparation, and post-trip reflection to ensure a successful and meaningful trip.

Applications for Site Leaders have closed. Applications for participants will open on the first day of Spring semester (Monday, January 29).
