Diversity Week

Diversity Affairs Council (DAC) presents an annual Diversity Week each spring. All events during Diversity Week 2018 are open to all students, faculty, staff, and community members. 

Unity Day March and Reception

Saturday, March 3, 2018
12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Armstrong Fritz Pavilion A/B

Diversity Week 2018 kicks off with Unity Day, a celebration of togetherness, respect and education. Miami students, faculty and staff, alumni and community members will march for diversity to demonstrate support for all students and student organizations of Miami.

The event begins with brunch and sign making at Armstrong Student Center Pavilion A and B.

  • 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. – Breakfast buffet, photo booth, sign-making, and "Ask Us Anything" from the Miami University Alumni Association. 
  • 1:00 p.m. - 1:15 p.m. - Keynote Speaker Duane Moore ('97)
  • 1:15 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. - Marching uptown and back to Armstrong
  • 2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. - Workshop

State of Diversity Address

Create a visual representation of a significant moment in your life to be used in the "We Are Diversity" art display. Supplies, stickers, and free coffee will be provided. 

Keynote Speaker Damon Williams

Dr. Damon A. Williams is a scholar, leader, educator and two-time Miami University Alum. He is passionate about helping organizations become inclusive and excellent for all, creating equitable educational outcomes, and activating learning. He guides higher education institutions, government, Fortune 500 companies, and non-profit organizations on how to prepare for the future by: (1) empowering the millennial and centennial generations, (2) establishing evidence-based diversity and inclusion strategies, (3) engaging youth digitally, (4) building sustainable corporate responsibility and social impact initiatives, and (5) closing the educational and social achievement gap for vulnerable communities. 

Informed by Dr. Williams' leadership, research, national best practices, and lived experiences, this keynote session will take attendees on a fun and engaging “TED Talk Like” journey of leadership, possibility, and the imperatives of diversity, equity, inclusion, change and the Centennial Generation.

Join Diversity Affairs Council in celebrating the conclusion of Diversity Week 2018 with We Are Diversity. The program will include an art exhibition, free crafts, music, and performance. Catering is provided by Chipotle and Insomnia Cookies.
