What to Bring

Please bring the following items with you to your orientation session:

  • Your Miami unique ID and password, which you will need for course registration.  Please also be sure you've set password recovery options for your Miami password (select "I would like to update my recovery options"). This will simplify the process of re-setting your password if you forget it.
  • A mobile device from which you can authenticate in Duo, our two-factor authentication system. If you have questions about Duo, see our IT Knowledge Base (MiamiOH.edu/duo), and/or our IT Services Duo guide (MiamiOH.edu/duofaq). We recommend downloading Duo Mobile for iPhone or Duo Mobile for Android on your mobile device, as you'll need it to login to campus computers, including for course registration.
  • A picture ID (e.g., driver's license, school ID) to prove identity when receiving your Miami ID card
  • Two canned food items, for our Class of 2024 food drive (drop these off at the resource fair on Day 1, 11:30am-12:30pm)
  • Casual clothing - note that student groups will sit on the ground outside unless it is raining, so please avoid very light-colored shorts/pants/skirts.
  • Comfortable walking shoes
  • Foreign language placement test results (especially if you've taken the tests less than one week prior to your orientation date)
  • Umbrella or rain jacket (we hope these won't be needed, but check the Oxford forecast - zip code 45056)
  • Alarm clock (wake-up service is not available, and Day 2 begins at 7am)
  • Pillow and blanket  (residence hall rooms do include linens, pillow and a blanket but many students like to bring their own)
  • Flip-flops (for the shower)
  • Toiletries
  • Jacket or sweater (orientation meeting rooms are air-conditioned, and layering is wise)

For your orientation stay, on-campus residence hall rooms include:

  • Bed/desk/chair/dresser/closet for each occupant
  • Air-conditioning
  • Bed linens and blanket
  • Pillow
  • Towel and washcloth
