First-Year Transition Course Undergraduate Associates

Undergraduate Associates in first-year transition courses (e.g., UNV 101, BUS 106, CEC 101) serve as peer mentors to new Miami students. As participants in the UA program, students must work a minimum of 37.5 hours assisting an instructor with the planning and implementation of first-year transition courses.

Undergraduate Associates for first-year transition courses will

  • serve as undergraduate teaching assistants for first-year transition courses
  • provide valuable input, suggestions, and guidance to first-year students
  • earn one credit hour for the experience (if desired) and a notation on their transcript
  • engage with ah faculty/staff mentor
  • serve in a mentoring role that will positively impact new Miami students

UA Selection Timeline:

  • March 22, 2019 - Applications Available
  • April 16, 2019 - Priority Application Deadline (business students should apply by this date)
  • May 3, 2019 - Final Application Deadline
  • May 3, 2019 - BUS 106 UAs Notified of Placement
  • May 7, 2019 - BUS 106 UA Orientation Session (6:00 pm)
  • May 10, 2019 - All UAs Notified of Application Status
  • July 17, 2019 - All UAs Notified of Class Placement

Priority consideration for the first-year transition course UA role will be given to those upperclass students who apply by Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at 11:59pm. However, applications will be accepted through Friday, May 3 at 11:59pm. EDT 310: Applications of Peer Education

All first-year transition course UAs will be enrolled in a 1-credit hybrid (online + in person) course to support training and education around peer mentorship. This 1-credit course is required for the UA role. 

The first meeting of EDT 310 will take place the the weekend prior to classes starting in the fall. Please hold Sunday, August 25, from 9:00 am - 12:00pm for this training session and kickoff to the UA experience.
