Transfer Students - August Orientation Academic Advising

New transfer students who do not attend a transfer one-day orientation must attend August orientation for a comprehensive introduction to Miami, which includes meeting with an academic advisor and registering for classes. Students and families attend an orientation session about their academic curriculum on Day 1 of August orientation (Wednesday, August 21), and academic advising and registration (with students only) takes place on Day 2 of August orientation (Thursday, August 22). For questions regarding academic advising and registration, please contact the academic division for your major. University Studies students (undecided major) will be advised by staff in the College of Arts and Science.

Important resources for advising and registration:

Guidebook for New Students

The Guidebook for New Students (PDF - opens in a new window) serves as a smaller version of the Miami University Bulletin, focusing largely on the all-university requirements known as the Global Miami Plan. The table of contents appears below. All students will receive a printed copy of the Guidebook.

Other Resources

Advanced Placement Credit: This website lists the credit given for AP and IB exams for Miami courses. Advisors at Orientation can be of additional assistance to students in understanding and applying this information, especially since Miami doesn't receive this year's official AP scores until July.

The Bulletin: The Bulletin is produced by the Registrar's Office, and includes complete information regarding general and major requirements as well as course descriptions and details regarding registration.
