Housing, Dining and ID Cards

Since you will be on campus for January orientation before the official start of the spring term, please review the details below regarding meals, residence hall accommodations, and getting your Miami student ID.

Campus Dining

Student meal plans will begin on 9am Sunday, January 26, 2020. You will need to pay for your own meals during January orientation and until your meal plan begins. Dining facilities will be open during January orientation in the Armstrong Student Center (where the orientation program is held). For information on dining hall hours, please visit the Dining Services website.

Moving In to Your Residence Hall Room (on-campus residents)

New students who live on campus and participate in the January orientation program will be approved to move in to their assigned residence hall room as of 8am on Wednesday, January 22, 2020; charges apply (see details below).  On-campus residents who do not want early move-in for January orientation on Wednesday, January 22 (e.g., those living locally, arriving on Thursday morning, etc.) must notify Orientation and Transition Programs by email at orientation@MiamiOH.edu to let us know what date you will arrive.  Early move-in charges will then be adjusted or removed according to your arrival date.

Students who need to move in earlier than Wednesday, January 22 must request approval directly through the Campus Services Center as a request for University Break Housing. If you have further questions about early move-in arrangements, please contact the Campus Services Center at 513-529-5000 or email CampusServicesCenter@miamioh.edu.

Students who attend January orientation will be charged an early arrival fee of $33.00 per night for each night before the residence hall contracts begin on Sunday, January 26, 2020.

On-campus students may move in:

  • Wednesday, January 22, 2020 (default-no additional action required): One day before January orientation (This is four days prior to the start of your housing contract; an early move-in fee of $33.00 per night will be added to your bursar bill. This is the best option for students who are traveling more than one hour to campus)
  • Thursday, January 23, 2020 (email orientation@MiamiOH.edu to request): First day of January orientation (This is three days prior to the start of your housing contract; an early move-in fee of $33.00 per night will be added to your bursar bill. This is a popular option for students who live within a few hours of campus.  Note that you should check in for orientation between 12:30-1:15pm, even if you do move into your room that morning.)
  • Sunday, January 26, 2020 (email orientation@MiamiOH.edu to request): This is the day your housing contract begins; there is no additional charge for moving in on this day (This is a popular option for students who live within driving distance of campus, and do not want to stay on campus during January orientation. In this case, you would return home or arrange your own accommodations after orientation day 1, and return to campus for orientation day 2.)

Getting Your ID Card

Upon arrival for January orientation, all students should first go to the Campus Services Center in the Campus Avenue Building (commonly known as "CAB") at 301 S. Campus Avenue (corner of Spring Street and Campus Avenue), Room 129. There, students will receive their Miami ID, which serves as the residence hall key to their on-campus room. If you upload your own photo in advance, your ID card will be ready for pick-up when you arrive. If you have not uploaded your own photo, the Campus Services Center staff can take your photo and print your ID card while you wait.

Unfortunately, we are not able to offer on-campus overnight guest accommodations for the January orientation program. Guests should make their own arrangements for overnight stays at a nearby hotel; our on-campus Marcum Hotel and Conference Center is an excellent option. You may wish to review a list of local accommodations, including the Marcum Center.
