2017-2018 Student-Created Communities

  • Business Etiquette LLC: Students who learn and practice multiple aspects of networking and etiquette as preparation for careers in the field of business.
  • CARE (Community Activism and Responsibility through Education): A group of students interested in enhancing the Miami and Oxford communities through activism and education.
  • Celebrate the Arts Chapter 2: A student-created extension of the first year Celebrate the Arts LLC where students had the opportunity to explore creative pursuits in the visual and performing arts.
  • Cheer Us On: Students encourage attendance at all athletic events by creating a sense of love and camaraderie within the community.
  • Cornerstone: A community for Christian women to grow spiritually, emotionally, and physically and support each other in that process.
  • Creative Entrepreneurship: Students working together to engage with the creative aspects of entrepreneurship so that they can gain valuable experience and have the ability to try out ideas in a community of support.
  • DIET (Dietary Information and Education Team): We’re a group of highly motivated, fun and friendly students who are looking to make a difference in the community by providing an inclusive and understanding space for people with specific dietary needs.
  • Film Appreciation: This community consists of a group of friends who all enjoy getting together to watch movies, productions, musicals, and other related forms of entertainment in a relaxed setting (which normally involves food). - Natalie, Community Coordinator GRN (Government Relations Network).
  • Second Year LLC: The Governmental Relations Network LLC 2.0, a student-created extension of the first year LLC, is a community of friends with a common interest in government and politics living and working together to help each other grow personally and professionally.   • Indoor Recreational Activities: Students connecting through a shared love of ping-pong, billiards, and other indoor recreational pursuits.
  • International Pen Pals: Students interested in engaging with culture and language through the art of letter writing to international pen pals.
  • Joy: A community for Christian women to build community and friendships.
  • Love and Honor to the Underdogs: Love and Honor to the Underdogs is a community meant to support the underrepresented clubs and teams across campus.
  • Miami Green Squad: Miami Green Squad is a community for students who want to raise awareness about climate change and the environment, as well as focus on living in a way that is more sustainable and eco-conscious.
  • Multicultural Language, Arts, and Cinema: A community of shared appreciation and interest in language, arts, and cinema from around the world.
  • Music Education LLC: Music Education students create a space where they can develop stronger bonds and support each other in their academics.
  • P.A.R.T. (Political Activism and Responsibility through Teaching): A group of students who enjoy politics and want to support student engagement in civil, political dialogue.
  • Redhawk Esports: The Esports LLC was created to increase the presence of Esports on campus at Miami and offer a place for players to succeed not only in their Esport, but also academically.
  • Social Justice 2.0: A student-created extension of the first-year Social Justice Scholars LLC focused on developing future leaders and global citizens who are committed to promoting social justice and equity in their personal and professional lives, engaging in public services, building bridges to other communities and educating others with their international perspective.
  • Stress Management: A community of students with a shared value of balancing their academic and social lives through a focused attention on learning how to successfully manage stress.
  • The Great Outdoors: A community for Christian men to share their passion for being outside while diving deeper into their faith.

2016-2017 Student-Created Communities

  • Pass the Plate: Students explore and appreciate different cultures through their culinary practices and cuisines.
  • Joy: A community for Christian women to build community and friendships.
  • Bridging Communities: Students forge friendships between Architecture, Engineering, Business, Creative Arts majors, and more to encourage a collaborative environment and prepare them for interdisciplinary connections in the workplace.
  • Health and Recreation: Students work to promote overall well-being among the students in the community and across campus.
  • Cheer Us On: Students encourage attendance at all athletic events by creating a sense of love and camaraderie within the community.
  • Crossroads of America: Students learn more about the history and culture of the surrounding area through exploration of Southwest Ohio.
  • Academic Motivation through Athletic Recreation (AMTAR):  Students create a space where physical activity improves students' academic performance by reducing stress and creating a more inviting environment.
  • Black Culture: Students build an inclusive community to celebrate and learn more about Black culture. 
  • Collage: Students experience a community of diverse second-years who want a space to learn about themselves in a safe and creative environment.
  • Cuisine Happens Our Way (CHOW): Students live in an environment where students who enjoy the art of cuisine can come together through their shared hobby of baking, cooking, and eating.
  • Digital Arts and Communication: Students grow through being introduced to a variety of media types and cultures through film, theatrical, gaming, and other educational media events, helping students to become a community of well rounded artists and media-age students.
  • hiveMind: Students focus on improved learning of programming and technological literacy.
  • Music Education: Music Education students create a space where they can develop stronger bonds and support each other in their academics. 
  • Science and Humanities: Students aim to expose those from scientific fields to humanities and vice versa, looking to find intersections and the ways in which these fields can mutually develop.

2015-2016 Student-Created Communities

  • First Light: Students in the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) build camaraderie and act as a support network for each other.
  • Games for Geeks: Students unite over a mutual enjoyment of games and work to expand the idea of who can be a gamer.
  • Miami Health: Students focus on bringing more public health awareness to the greater Miami community.
  • Sports Enthusiasts: Honors students create and develop strong friendships through their love for sports.
  • Bridging Communities: Students forge friendships between Architecture, Engineering, Business, Creative Arts majors, and more to encourage a collaborative environment and prepare them for interdisciplinary connections in the workplace.
