Christina Carrubba-WhetstineChristina Carrubba-Whetstine

Director, Academic Support and Retention

Dr. Christina Carrubba-Whetstine is the Director of the Rinella Learning Center, Miami University’s primary academic support unit. Christina joined Miami University in 2000 and has provided academic support and various levels of leadership to the Rinella Learning Center since 2002. She earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in history from the University of Indianapolis in 1998 and a Doctorate of Philosophy in Educational Leadership in 2015. Dr. Carrubba-Whetstine is committed to providing services to students so that they may transform their learning processes, develop the capacity to reflect on their educational experience, integrate new perspectives into their worldview, and develop an internal voice that will guide them in their life-long learning journey. Christina also teaches a graduate seminar as adjunct assistant professor in the Student Affairs in Higher Education program on Critical Thinking in Writing.

Gary Ritz Gary Ritz

Associate Director

Gary Ritz oversees the Rinella Learning Center’s Collaborative Learning Initiatives (CLI), which includes Tutoring and Supplemental Instruction services and the Undergraduate Associates Program. Gary also coordinates many of the assessment processes of Rinella; supervises summer orientation programs; teaches EDT 110, Rinella’s study strategies course; and provides academic counseling to students. Gary earned his degrees from Ball State University with his Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Mathematics Education and Master’s Degree in Student Affairs Administration in Higher Education. Gary has earned the Level III NCLCA Learning Center Leadership Certification and currently sits on the Learning Assistance Review (TLAR) Editorial Board. Before joining Rinella in 2015, Gary was the Director of Ball State University’s Learning Center. In his career, Gary also taught high school and college mathematics and coached various sports.

Golden Fanning Golden Fanning

Assistant Director

Dr. Golden Fanning is the Assistant Director of the Rinella Learning Center. She joined the RLC staff in 2013 as a Learning Specialist. Golden earned her Bachelor’s degree from Miami University in 2007 with a major in Psychology and minor in Family Studies. She went on to earn her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in 2009 and Doctorate of Philosophy in Counselor Education and Supervision in 2016, both from Ohio University. Golden oversees the hiring and supervision of the Rinella Learning Center’s team of graduate student staff members and coordinates the Academic Coaching program. Her responsibilities also include providing academic counseling assistance to students and teaching EDT 110.

Ana BarattaAna Baratta

Learning Specialist Coordinator

Dr. Ana Baratta coordinates the Rinella Learning Center’s Supplemental Instruction (SI) Program at Miami University. In this role, Ana monitors and assesses the effectiveness of the SI program. Ana also coordinates and teaches EDT 110, the study strategies course at Rinella Learning Center. Ana provides academic counseling/coaching that focus on learning, time management and organization strategies. Ana is a licensed Psychologist in El Salvador and earned her Master’s and PhD degrees in Educational Psychology with a minor in Counseling from Indiana University in 2003 and 2012 respectively. Before joining Rinella in 2015, she was an adjunct faculty in Elementary Teacher Education Program at Indiana University-Purdue University in Indianapolis. Ana has also worked as an educational consultant for international schools in her home country of El Salvador.

Chasity DittmannChasity Dittmann

Learning Specialist Coordinator, Special Programs

Chasity Dittmann is a Learning Specialist and the Coordinator of Special Programs for the Rinella Learning Center. She joined the RLC staff full-time in 2013, after finishing her Graduate Assistantship with the RLC. Chasity earned her Bachelor’s degree from Ithaca College in 2011 with a major in Sociology. She went on to earn her Master’s degree in Curriculum and Teacher Leadership and is currently pursuing a PhD in Educational Leadership, both from Miami University. Chasity coordinates both the Miami Access Fellows Program and the Scholastic Enhancement Program. Her responsibilities include advocating for inclusion and diversity, providing academic counseling and financial mediation, and teaching undergraduate research and transitional courses. She is from Fort Worth, Texas.

Lori HornungLori Hornung

Program Associate

Lori Hornung is a Program Associate for Rinella Learning Center, providing support for all the various functions of RLC and coordinating front desk and reception efforts. She has been at Miami University for 7 years, and has been at RLC for 2. Lori resides in Indiana with her daughters and three dogs. Her oldest daughter is a student at Miami University - Oxford, and her youngest is in high school at Union County High School.

Anita LeeAnita Lee 

Master Administrative Assistant

Anita has been the Administrative Assistant for the Rinella Learning Center since 2011 and at Miami University for the past 16 years. She serves as office manager giving oversight and support for RLC Testing, student employment/payroll and the center’s webpage as well as overall support for the Rinella Learning Center’s programs, initiatives and professional staff. Anita is a Miami University alumni with a Bachelor’s degree in Integrative Studies, concentrating in Organizational Leadership and Communication and an Associate’s degree in Accounting and Technology. Both her daughter (‘13) and son (‘17) are Miami grads in addition to the entire family’s continued involvement and support of the Redhawks for many years.

Tory LoweTory Lowe

Learning Specialist Coordinator

Tory Lowe is a Learning Specialist/Coordinator in the Rinella Learning Center. Tory coordinates the Rinella Learning Center’s Workshop Series as well as RLC’s social media presence. Tory also teaches EDT 110 (Learning Strategies for College Success), develops online workshops and courses to support student academic interventions, provides academic counseling for students, and serves on the Miami University Academic Support and Advising Association. Tory earned his Bachelor of Arts in English and Creative Writing from Ashland University, and holds Master’s degrees in English and Student Affairs in Higher Education, both from Miami University. Before joining the Rinella staff full-time, Tory worked in the office for two years as a graduate assistant; he also previously taught for four years in Miami University’s English department.

Natalie MallaleyNatalie Mallaley

Testing Center Coordinator

Natalie has been the Rinella Learning Center Testing Coordinator since December 2016. As the Testing Coordinator, Natalie provides support for RLC’s Testing Center, where hundreds of examinations are proctored for students every semester. Natalie grew up in and around Oxford, Ohio. She attended the Talawanda school district and graduated from Miami University in May 2016 with a Bachelor’s degree in Integrative Studies, including concentrations in Organizational Leadership and Administration. She has also received her Associate in Arts with concentrations in Communications and Anthropology.

Heather MorrowHeather Morrow

Learning Specialist Coordinator

Heather Morrow is a Learning Specialist Coordinator at Rinella Learning Center, Miami University's primary academic support unit. Heather earned a Bachelor of Science in Behavioral & Social Sciences from Indiana University East in 2003 and a Master of Arts in Educational Psychology from Ball State University in 2013. Heather joined Rinella Learning Center in 2015 and enjoys providing academic support and guidance to Miami students. Heather serves as the Tutoring Coordinator within the Collaborative Learning Initiatives program at Rinella Learning Center, and is responsible for training and supervising a staff of approximately 50 tutors each semester. Additionally, Heather teaches RLC’s study skills course, EDT 110: Learning Strategies for College Success.
