SEAL Workshops

The Associated Student Government (ASG), the Office of Student Activities and the Cliff Alexander Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life, and the Harry T. Wilks Institute of Leadership and Service have worked together to create workshops focused on helping student organizations on campus.

For Spring 2001 our SEAL Workshops have gone virtual! Read on to find out how you can earn Red Brick Rewards by attending live virtual workshops or checking out recordings of older sessions.

SEAL Workshops are required for Red Brick Rewards. This semester there are two ways to earn Red Brick Rewards for attendance.

  • For live virtual sessions where you are present during the workshop: you must be logged into The Hub to see these workshops; attendance will be taken; signing into a workshop with your organization's entity account will ensure you receive credit for the in-person, virtual session.
  • For workshops that you view after the fact: after a live virtual workshop is over, recordings will be available on this page; to receive Red Brick Rewards credit for watching a recorded session, you must take a quiz and score 80% or higher; the quiz for each workshop can be found in the Descriptions section of the YouTube video and can also be found under the Forms section of The Hub.

November 5 - Crowd Funding for Your Student Org

5:00pm-6:00pm, 100 Benton Hall

Are you looking for ways to fundraise for your student organization? We’re here to help! #MoveInMiami is a fundraising event to help Miami students enhance their Miami Experience. You can raise money for your organization at Miami for a number of things including travel costs, equipment, membership dues and more. The event is all virtual; people from all over the world can donate.

Think GoFundMe, but better! Unlike GoFundMe, #MoveInMiami allows your organization to receive 100 percent of the money you raise.

Last year, #MoveInMiami raised nearly $1.6 million for projects all over campus. Student organizations like Paws for a Cause, Miami Women’s Club Ice Hockey, SOULs and numerous fraternities and sororities have participated in previous years.

November 13 - Starfish Leadership Workshop

6:00pm-7:30pm - 1086 Armstrong Student Center

A starfish is an organism without a central brain or any other cerebral hierarchy; each arm of the starfish can function independently. A spider, on the other hand, is fully dependent on its head for basic survival. Thus, when the spider’s head is cut off, it dies, but when an arm is cut off a starfish, not only does it survive, but it grows an entirely new arm. What applies in biology also applies in the business world. The distributed structures of starfish organizations allow them to function independently of a central head. Their regenerative abilities make them more nimble in reacting to external forces. Seeding starfish networks inside large, hierarchical organizations give them the ability to be agile while still maintaining the necessary accountability to be effective.
