U-Lead Suggested Packing List

Students cheer on the Redhawks during a sporting event at Miami University.

As you prepare to come to Miami University for the U-Lead experience, we hope you will bring the clothing and supplies suggested below. The weather in southwest Ohio in August can be quite varied, but generally it is pretty warm and humid. We suggest checking the 5 or 10 day forecasts prior to the start of U-Lead so you're able to prepare accordingly about what to wear each day.

Of course, you'll have many more things with you in Oxford since you're either living on campus or living nearby, but we offer the following suggestions about what you'll need for U-Lead:

  • U-Lead is pretty casual, so we suggest comfortable, casual outfits for 4 days (shorts, pants, jeans and t-shirts, short sleeve shirts, etc.)
  • 1 pair of athletic shoes - we'll be doing lots of walking around campus so comfortable shoes are a must!
  • extra set of casual (grungy) clothes and closed toed shoes you don’t mind getting dirty (for the service trip on day 3)
  • 1 poncho and/or umbrella - always helpful to have in the chance of rain!
  • 1 pair of sunglasses
  • 1 nice outfit for U-Lead commencement (does not need to be a suit) (for day 4)

Other things to consider

  • 1 container of insect repellent
  • 1 container of sun screen
  • 1 water bottle that can be re-used (i.e. nalgene)
  • $10-15 for lunch in Uptown Oxford on day 3. You can pay with cash or credit card, but make sure you bring some form of payment for lunch on Wednesday!
  • Any medications necessary
  • Your Miami student ID
  • A copy of your health insurance card or information in case an emergency arises - we hope you won't need it, but it's good to have this with you at college, in general.

Note: Cell phones are permitted, but should only be used during participant free time.

While we can provide suggestions on what to pack, only you know what makes you comfortable!
