Leadership Enrichment Access Fund

We are accepting applications at this time. 

LEAF is awarded to support a second year or higher student(s) seeking the following through co-curricular activities, but due to significant financial need would be unable to afford to participate and/or would incur undue financial hardship to do so:

  • Personal and professional growth
  • The development of leadership skills
  • Exposure to diverse, global perspectives

The LEAF award is dependent on the amount requested. Typically 3-4 awards are offered with the average award between $4,000-$7,000. Previous awards have funded study abroad programs, independent research projects, EMT Certification, Sorority dues and Miami Mock Trial participation. The award may be used at any time as an undergraduate student at Miami; funds will be held until the recipient is ready to utilize the award. The qualities and characteristics of LEAF recipients include:

  • Demonstration of financial need*
  • Personal accountability for financial self-sufficiency and fiscal responsibility*
  • Highest standard of ethics and integrity
  • Broad and active view of citizenship
  • Reputational sensibility
  • Exemplary academic record**
  • Record of working to pay for all or a portion of their college costs
  • Campus and/or community involvement

*Please note: In terms of demonstration of financial need and personal accountability, this could be articulated on the application via a written statement explaining the need level, a copy of a submitted FAFSA form, etc. Please contact the Wilks Leadership Institute at or 513-529-0830 with any questions.

**Please note: There is not a specific GPA required for award applicants. Award recipients will be in good academic standing at Miami University.

Application Process

We are accepting applications at this time.

Applicants must submit the following by November 25, 2019 for full consideration:

  1. An essay or statement addressing such issues as how they plan on using the award money, why it is important to them, how they believe it will enhance their education/college experience, how it will help to achieve the goals they have set for their Miami experience and how they demonstrate the characteristics enumerated for the LEAF recipients
  2. Resume: an overview of their academics, work experiences, and co-curricular activities
  3. A statement explaining/demonstrating financial need

Award Recipient's Responsibilities

The LEAF Award recipient(s) will be required to do a reading or listening assignment prior to beginning the experience for which the funds are to be used. Upon completion, the recipient(s) will create a detailed written summary of the experience and/or a detailed and illustrative slideshow. For more information about these requirements, please contact
