Student Leadership Challenge Living Learning Community

The Student Leadership Challenge Living Learning Community (LLC), formerly known as the Wilks Leadership LLC, is for upper-class students focused on exploring leadership using the Student Leadership Challenge. Leadership development is a hallmark of this LLC and students submit applications in the spring semester to be part of the LLC for the following academic year. Students in this LLC will enhance their leadership skills by completing The Student Leadership Challenge and exploring and integrating the Five Practices for Exemplary Leaders:

  • Model the way
  • Inspire a shared vision
  • Enable others to act
  • Challenge the process
  • Encourage the heart

LLC members will participate in the following ways:

  • Lead and participate in weekly community meetings
  • Attend leadership speaker events and workshops
  • Participate in opportunities focused on well being: recreational or club sports (unless intercollegiate athlete), financial and career planning workshops, health and wellness assessments, etc.
  • Develop and read a book from a leadership reading list
  • Participate in a peer-to-peer assessment of leadership skills
  • Plan and complete service project
  • Complete the Student Leadership Practices Inventory

Selection Process

  • Applications will be available in the spring semester for the following academic year.
  • Application review and selection in February-March. The goal is to create a diverse community that represents the Miami community and provides opportunities for members to meet others from varied backgrounds, perspectives, and identities. All members will have an overall commitment to personal leadership development.
