Recharge: Going for Gold

Olympic Spirit strives to inspire and motivate the world to be the best they can be through educational and entertaining interactive challenges to build a peaceful and better world. As the landscape of higher education continues to evolve, we must work as a team, each of us contributing our expertise and dedication to Recharge: Go for Gold, bringing the Olympic spirit to our collective experience. We will rise to the occasion and help our students succeed.

  • The landscape is changing - 74% of today’s college students, who historically would have been considered “non-traditional,” are the new traditional student.
  • The roles are expanding - Students simultaneously engage in the scholarly pursuit of advanced studies while juggling family commitments, financial responsibilities, employment, and social engagement.
  • The game is evolving - Employers are demanding a strong mix of skills, experience, and credentials in many industries, while other industries are recruiting employees straight out of high school with competitive wages that put higher ed in the backseat.

Recharge 2020: Tracks & Sample Sessions

We are witnessing a shift within the population of students we serve and the work for which we are preparing them. America’s pop culture definition of the traditional college student is debunked. In reality, 74% of today’s college students, who historically would have been considered “non-traditional,” is the new traditional student.

Our students simultaneously engage in the scholarly pursuit of advanced studies while juggling family commitments, financial responsibilities, employment, and social engagement. This year's sessions will focus on strategies that we as a team and individuals can use in our roles with students. Visit our Recharge 2020 Tracks & Sample Sessions page for details of our sessions and workshop tracks.

What is Recharge?

Recharge was an idea sparked in 2014 that has grown into an annual tradition at the Regionals. This free event brings together diverse groups of faculty and staff for a day of personal rejuvenation and professional development. Featuring professional sessions facilitated by Miami faculty and staff (and a few external presenters) on a diverse array of topics: from teaching practices to project management, from student success and retention to interpersonal and intercultural practices. Also infused with community building, networking opportunities, and a "refresh experience" designed to help you get rejuvenated and "recharged" for the upcoming new year, there is something for everyone at Recharge.

Who attends Recharge?

Over 200 Miami faculty and staff from across the campuses, as well as colleagues from neighboring institutions and members of our communities attend the event each year. Attendance continues to increase with each year.
