Students from Brenda Mitchell and Steve Lytle's class, MUS 359 Advanced Instrumental Methods, recently sponsored an outreach event for children from the Hamilton Boys and Girls Club. Held on Sunday, February 19, at Millett Hall on Miami's campus, Miami music students spent the afternoon engaging with children from the local organization to learn about band, while having fun with a variety of activities.

The event was part of the Experience Project sponsored by the Hamilton Community Foundation to provide Boys and Girls Club members life experiences that they may not otherwise be able to have. Students earned the privilege of participating by attending after school programs, working in the homework and reading club, all while demonstrating positive behavior.

The children had an opportunity to work with Miami students in activities such as trying out instruments, learning to march, and making instruments. Additional volunteers from Badin High School in Hamilton also participated in the day's events. Afterwards all were treated to a pizza party hosted at Brick Street by Marc Weisman and his family with help from other Miami student organizations.
