Internationally-acclaimed FOX News Channel anchor, Emmy Award winner and alumnus Bill Hemmer to speak at Farmer School's Divisional Commencement

Acclaimed news anchor and journalist, Bill Hemmer (MU 87), will be the commencement speaker at Miami University's Farmer School of Business Divisional Recognition Ceremony, Sunday, May 12th at 2:00 p.m. in Millett Hall. A Cincinnati native, Hemmer started his on-air career while still a Miami student, interning at the iconic 97X radio station. After graduation, he moved from radio to TV, working as a sports anchor on WCPO-TV in Cincinnati.

Hemmer is currently the co-anchor of America's Newsroom on FOX News Channel. Since joining the network in 2005, he has covered a variety of major stories from both the news desk and the field. Most recently, Hemmer played a large role in the network's coverage of the 2012 political season, reporting from the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte and the Republican National Convention in Tampa. On election night, Hemmer monitored the results on FNC's "Bill Board."

Additional stories he has covered for FOX News include the Hurricane Katrina aftermath, the 2006 Israel-Lebanon crisis, the Iraq War, and an interview with the 2008 presidential nominee of the Democratic Party. He also handled extensive coverage of Pope Benedict XVI's visit to the United States in April 2008, as well as the shootings at Fort Hood, and the 2010 earthquake in Haiti. He is one of the few reporters to have been embedded with U.S. Marines in Camp Fallujah, Iraq.

Prior to joining FOX News, Hemmer spent ten years at CNN, hosting a number of programs, including American Morning, CNN Tonight, and CNN Live Today. While at CNN, Hemmer traveled extensively covering major world events, including the death of Pope John Paul II, the 2004 political season, the Iraq War and the September 11th World Trade Center attacks. In 2000, Hemmer reported live from Tallahassee, Florida, for thirty-seven straight days during the Florida election recount of the U.S. presidential election.

A recipient of several awards, Hemmer won three regional Emmy awards in 1993: Best Investigative Story, Best Entertainment Programming and Best Host. In 1996, he received a national Emmy award for his coverage of the 1996 Olympic Centennial Park bombing in Atlanta.
