Dr. Higgin Kim Wins Montblanc de la Culture Patronage Award

May 2013

Dr. Higgin Kim (MU '69) has been selected as a 2013 Montblanc de la Culture Patronage Award winner.

Every year since 1992, the Montblanc Cultural Foundation has presented the "Montblanc de la Culture Arts Patronage" Award. This internationally renowned award is bestowed on celebrities from artistic and cultural worlds whose personal commitment is made mostly far away from the spotlight and the public eye: Patrons. Their priceless work they do backstage is distinguished by a life-long passion and dedication which supports talents everywhere and enriches a global audience.

Recent awardees include Andrew Lloyd Webber, Quincy Jones, HM Queen Sophie of Spain, HRH Prince Charles of the United Kingdom and Yoko Ono.

Dr. Kim is a prominent Korean business leader and the CEO of Seoul-based Byucksan Engineering and Construction Co. His generous $1 million gift established our Higgin Kim Asian Business Program. His gift also helps support our Pacific Rim summer study program and semester-long exchange programs with premier universities in Korea and Japan, as well as creating productive relationships between Miami faculty and their Asian counterparts.

Dr. Kim's endowment also established the Higgin Kim Asia Business Scholarship, which gives approximately $20,000 annually to students who participate in study abroad and exchange programs in Korea and Japan.
