FSB Students get a Jump Start on Career Fair

September 2013

On Tuesday, September 17, the honor society, Beta Alpha Psi (BAP) will welcome 47 companies to campus so accounting, finance, and information systems & analytics majors can meet potential employers in a more intimate setting. Firms will be set up at tables, and will mingle with students, providing information about full-time and internship opportunities.

"It's like a career fair for accounting majors," said Marc Rubin, PwC Professor and Chair of Accountancy.

Natalie Springer, the Vice President for Professional Relations for Beta Alpha Psi, stressed the networking aspect of this event. "It's a chance to get to know the firms and network before Miami's career fair, which is the next day," she said. "This is a big recruiting event for these corporations. It gives students a better chance to get their names out there and into the minds of the companies—to get a foot in the door." She also said that the more intimate nature of this event, as it caters to specific majors, can be an advantage for students. Once they attend Meet the Firms Night, she said, these corporations will already know their names at Miami's Career Fair the next day.

Attendance by students and firms at Meet the Firms Night has grown exponentially. Just from last year, there are 20% more firms attending and a record crowd of students is expected.

Meet the Firms Night takes place in the Multipurpose Rooms of the Shriver Center. Doors open at 6:00 for BAP members and Masters of Accountancy students; all other students are welcome to join at 6:45. The event will go until 9:00. For more information, please contact Natalie Springer at
