11-9-17 Weekly Three

November 9, 2017

Colleagues,

David Creamer, Senior Vice President for Finance and Business Services, and I gave the annual Oxford campus budget presentation at this week’s open University Senate meeting. We are now adding annotated notes to the powerpoint slides and will include the presentation in next week’s Three. Here is this week’s Three:

International Education Week - Next week, November 13-19, Miami will celebrate International Education Week, an annual initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education. The schedule of activities - including information sessions, lectures and community events—can be found on the Office of Global Initiatives website.

Optimal Town Gown Assessment - Miami and the City of Oxford have been invited (via a competitive process) to participate in The Ohio College Initiative Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Pilot Project. A significant component of this initiative involves surveying Miami students, faculty, staff and significant Oxford stakeholders. The survey measures campus and community perceptions of each other and has been expanded to include questions related specifically to the impact of student alcohol and drug use on town-gown relations. I encourage you to complete the Optimal Town Gown Assessment survey at https://www.collegetownassessment.com/survey/miamioh.

Reminder - The first of this year’s Inclusion Series presentations, “Universal Design in Higher Education,” is scheduled for:

Tuesday, December 5th
5:00-6:30 pm
Shriver Center - Heritage Room

This Inclusion Series will focus on how the principles of Universal Design can be applied inside and outside the classroom to ensure Miami offers an accessible learning, working and living environment. Following the interactive presentation and demonstration, participants will be given a tour of the new Access Center and the Office of Student Disability Services. I hope you will be able to attend.

Until next week,
Phyllis
