Senate News, March 16, 2020
An additional meeting of Senate was held on March 16, 2020 via WebEx. Provost Osborne provided a COVID-19 update. Shelly Jarrett Bromberg, Leighton Peterson, and John-Charles Duffy provided information to senators, and answered questions, about the proposed revisions to the Global Miami Plan requirements. Senators engaged in a discussion with Stacey Lowery Bretz regarding the Academic Program Evaluation Improvement Process.

Topics included; 1) No instructional activities in person allowed; limit non-essential in-person activities, 2) Hiring freeze, 3) Mid Term grades, 4) Pass/Fail, 5) Spring Break goals for faculty (Take a breath and find time to think through the rest of the semester, Update syllabus to reflect new reality and how you will meet learning objectives through remainder of semester, Prepare for what-if scenarios like: "What if the US requires everyone to stay in-home for two weeks" like Italy and other countries have, Think through final exams/papers/products Engage in self care, Breathe) and 6) Tools for extended remote work

Senior John Fink describes his experiences as one of six selected worldwide for geology research experience in Japan
John Fink is preparing to graduate from Miami this spring. Last summer, he was granted the opportunity to participate in the International Internship Program through the Institute For Planetary Materials, Okayama University in Misasa, Japan.
