Search for the "wings" of a crustacean sheds light on origins of insect wings
The tiny shrimp-like crustacean Parhyale has a body plan similar to insects. Miami researchers found that Parhyale have gene networks similar to insect wing gene networks, shedding light on the origin of insect wings. Crustacean genes might shed light on the origin of wings in insects, a new study by Yoshi Tomoyasu and Courtney Clark-Hatchel (Miami '12, Ph.D. '18) finds.

Miami professor gives Chautauqua Institution lecture series commemorating women's suffrage
August 18, 2020 marked the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, which guaranteed women the right to vote. To commemorate this date, Kimberly A. Hamlin has been conducting a discussion-oriented 3-part master class on the history of women's suffrage and women’s rights in the United States, hosted by the Chautauqua Institution.

Myaamia culture and imagery to be part of the K-12 "Ohio as America" curriculum
The Myaamia Center, some Miami University art education students and the Talawanda School District have collaborated the past three years on curriculum to help fourth graders learn about Myaamia culture and imagery. Starting this fall, the two Myaamia culture and imagery lessons will become part of the K-12 Ohio as America curriculum.
