The fifth Annual International Interior Design Association (IIDA) Student Design Charette takes place during NeoCon in Chicago, Tuesday, June 14th, 2016. This year, two Miami University interior design students were selected to participate: senior Lila Wengler and junior Alana Carson. Only 50 spaces are available for interior design students nationwide.

As a graduating senior, Lila Wengler is an active and engaged leader in the Interior Design program at Miami University. She served as co-president of Miami’s IIDA Campus Center and as vice president of APX, an architecture and allied arts fraternity. Lila has received numerous academic and design-related honors and awards, and has completed professional internships with firms in Carmel, California and Oxford, Ohio.

Alana Carson is a third year interior design major at Miami University. Alana enjoys participating in Miami University’s student chapter of IIDA and has participated in a variety of other design competitions, including IIDA’s Student Design Competition, IIDA’s Booth Design Competition at Orgatec, and the Robert Bruce Thompson Annual Student Light Fixture Design Competition. Alana enjoys sharing her love for interior design through giving tours to perspectives students in the Department of Architecture + Interior Design. This summer, Alana is interning with Champlin Architecture in Cincinnati, OH.

The goal of the IIDA Student Charette is to provide students with an opportunity to work in a collaborative environment with other students and professionals, exposing them to different styles of design while applying their design knowledge without the aid of a computer or other digital technology. Each student team, made up a variety of students from various interior design departments across the country, will present their innovative design solution to a panel of respected judges from the Interior Design industry.

In addition to the participating in the charette, students will have the opportunity to attend a number of NeoCon programs, including IIDA Career Bootcamp, keynote speakers, and networking events with experienced interior design professionals. The charette will be followed by a winner’s reception on Wednesday, June 15th.
