ITAA Distinguished Scholar Award awarded to Leslie Stoel

Leslie StoelProfessor Leslie D. Stoel Professor Leslie D. Stoel, was awarded the International Textile and Apparel Association (ITAA) 2017 Distinguished Scholar Award. As a recipient of the award, Stoel received a $1,500 cash award and presented on her scholarly work at ITAA's annual conference held Nov. 14–18 in St. Petersburg, FL. Her lecture was entitled, "Technology Research in Clothing & Textiles: What’s Next?" 

Stoel serves a joint appointment in both the Farmer School of Business and the College of Creative Arts to bridge business and the arts for the Fashion programming at Miami. Prior to her appointment at Miami, she served 15 years at Ohio State University in the Fashion and Retail Studies program, where she was chair of the Consumer Sciences area. 

Prior to her academic career, Dr. Stoel was an award winning merchant with J.C. Penney at several stores in the Washington, D.C. metro district.

In recent years Stoel has given research presentations at over 90 national and international conferences and authored or co-authored approximately 40 publications in leading academic journals in retail and fashion merchandising fields. Dr. Stoel has received multiple research awards and recognitions in retail and merchandising disciplines and has received federal grants from the US Department of Agriculture and an external grant from the Center for Business Education and Research (CIBER) Fellowship

ITAA is a professional, educational association composed of scholars, educators, and students in the textile, apparel, and merchandising disciplines in higher education. ITAA welcomes professionals employed in those fields who wish to join with members of the Association in the pursuit of knowledge, interchange of ideas, and dissemination of knowledge through meetings, special events, and publications.  ITAA promotes the discovery, dissemination, and application of knowledge and is a primary resource for its members in strengthening leadership and service to society.
