Two College of Creative Arts Students Receive President’s Distinguished Service Award

Miami University’s Division of Student Life recognizes approximately 15 graduating seniors who have gone above and beyond in terms of campus and community service annually. This past Sunday, two College of Creative Arts seniors received this award in a ceremony at Kumler Chapel on Western Campus.

Emily Prochaska is a bassoon performance and arts management double major. One of Prochaska’s nominators wrote that Emily exemplifies a dedication to creating a vibrant, inviting, and supportive culture. Over her four years at Miami, Prochaska has dedicated herself to being a resource for students interested in attending Miami University. She volunteers at audition days as well as Make it Miami events and is always willing to speak with prospective students about what it means to be a part of the Miami University Family. Another nominator praised Prochaska for making it difficult to separate her contributions as a student, a performer, and a volunteer since everything she does is imbued with a concern for the benefit of others and the greater good.

Theatre and strategic communication double major Beth Pfohl was also recognized as a recipient of the award at Sunday’s ceremony. Pfohl spent the fall 2018 semester abroad at Miami’s Luxembourg campus where she was selected to serve as co-chair of the Student Faculty Council. In this position, she organized campus events where students and community members had the chance to interact and engage with one another. Additionally, Pfohl helped ensure that the MUDEC 50th Anniversary celebrations ran smoothly by volunteering her time to guide alumni tours and speak with the press. She also had the great responsibility of delivering the 50th Anniversary Convocation opening speech where she addressed the crowd, including a member of the royal family, in Luxembourgish to exemplify Miami’s deep appreciation for the relationship between the university and country. One of Pfohl’s nominators described her as an unofficial ambassador for Miami and the United States.
