Incoming Dean receives Inclusive Culture and Equity Award
The Women in Engineering ProActive Network (WEPAN) has awarded Miami's incoming CEC dean, Dr. Beena Sukumaran, with this year’s WEPAN Inclusive Culture and Equity Award.
WEPAN pushes for the inclusion of women and other under-represented groups in the field of engineering, from college into their careers. Dr. Sukumaran received this particular award for her outstanding leadership and initiative in implementing programs that call for inclusion in the world of engineering.
“[This] is an external validation of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion work that I have forged ahead with because I believe it is the right thing to do,” Dr. Sukumaran said. “Recognition by my peers who are leaders in the field in achieving gender equity in computing and engineering tells me that some of the work my colleagues and I have done in the past is worthy of recognition for its successes, and we can build on that to create a more inclusive culture in computing and engineering.”
