Miami University Confucius Institute Hosts 5th Annual Chinese Festival Celebration

By Kristin Magyari, Assistant Director for Communications & Marketing, Global Initiatives

September may bring crisp air and autumn foliage to Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, but this time of year also means something else from the perspective of Global Initiatives: it’s time for the annual Chinese Festival. Mark your calendar for the festivities which take place at the end of this month.

Dr. Cheryl D. Young, Assistant Provost, expresses, "Global Initiatives is excited about the upcoming Chinese Festival. The festival is a celebration of Chinese language and culture for the campus and community that brings together participants to share their culture and community members to learn about it. There are many events, competitions, performances, and cultural activities–there is something for everyone!"

The Miami University Confucius Institute (CIMU) will host the 5th annual Chinese Festival, on September 28, 2018 from 2-8:30pm. There will be kung fu and kite flying in Cook Field from 2-4pm, followed by cultural booths, performances, music, and food in Oxford Uptown Parks from 5:30-8:30pm.

Participants of the celebration include students from local schools, Miami and Oxford community members, and Miami University students. All are invited to participate in the Chinese Festival to learn more about Chinese culture and language.

Mason High school teacher, Ling-Ling Nian, says, "The Chinese culture festival at Miami University is very valuable to our students. It provides an opportunity for hands-on, fully immersive learning for my students. They have fun while also learning Chinese culture." Rohan Karra, one of Nian's students, exclaims, “The Miami trip was the best field trip I have been on in my high school life. The learning opportunities presented during the trip were priceless and I learned a lot about the great Chinese culture.”
