Planned upgrade: Puppet servers unavailable Tuesday through Thursday next week

IT Services will start the first phase of a planned upgrade to Version 5 of Puppet (we are currently running Version 4). This first phase will update some components of Puppet that will allow us to continue to upgrade to the new version.

This work is scheduled to take place Tuesday, May 26 at 12 am through Thursday, May 28 at 11:30 pm.

During the upgrade, Puppet will be disabled on all servers.

This will impact normal operations in a few ways:

  • Application deployments using the GitLab pipeline will not automatically deploy to servers
  • Adding new users or new groups to servers will be disabled
  • Building new servers will be disabled
  • Puppet will not be running to keep servers in the desired state
  • Configuration changes managed by Puppet will not be applied
After the update, the Foreman web interface will look a little different, but the functions and menus remain intuitive and none of the established procedures will change.

If you have any questions or concerns about this upgrade, please contact Jeff Triplett.
