Biography
Dr. Ashley Hopkins serves as the Project Director for Miami University Regionals TRIO Upward Bound. Dr. Hopkins has served in a variety of teaching and administrative capacities since joining Miami University in 2017. Prior to her work at Miami University, Dr. Hopkins' spent 15 years in K12 and higher education as a teacher, professor, researcher, TRIO program staff member, and nonprofit administrator.
Her teaching and research interests lie in the field of Appalachian Studies, teacher leadership, curriculum and instruction, education as a liberative act, culturally-responsive pedagogy, and place-based teaching methods. As a proud first-generation college student and Appalachian-American, Dr. Hopkins values transformative educational experiences and opportunities that promote the inclusion, achievement, and empowerment of historically marginalized student populations.
Dr. Hopkins is also a proud Hamiltonian with a passion for serving her community. Through her leadership role with the Upward Bound program at Hamilton High School, Dr. Hopkins advocates for and serves Hamilton's future generations in hopes of contributing to a more just and equitable society, and an even brighter Hamilton. Her volunteer work centers on Appalachian culture, youth development, holistic community wellness, educational access, and literacy. When she's not working or volunteering in her community, Dr. Hopkins can be found enjoying her downtime with her husband, three dogs, and two bonus children. Dr. Hopkins is also an avid reader and traveler, a foodie, an appreciator of the arts, a novice poet, an outdoors enthusiast, and a practicing gardener.
