Introduction

Erik Niehaus was born in Hamilton, Ohio, went to Hamilton High School and graduated from Ball State University. Following college he attended the police academy and was then hired by the Miami University Police Department as a police officer. Erik moved on to the West Chester Police Department where he spent almost twenty years and rose through the ranks becoming the Chief of Police for his last five and a half years of service. During his career in West Chester he investigated and supervised drug, vice, personal and property crimes as well as traffic offenses. As a police chief he handled a variety of financial and personnel matters and worked with attorneys representing West Chester in litigation matters, including union issues and contract negotiations.

While still employed with West Chester, Erik began the part-time program at the Chase College of Law at Northern Kentucky University in the hopes of following in his late father’s footsteps, Judge David J. Niehaus. Erik graduated from Chase in December 2004 and continued working with the West Chester Police Department while taking cases on family law matters and estate planning and serving as an Acting Prosecutor in the City of Hamilton Municipal Court.
