Scholarly Interests
A 1988 graduate of the University of Michigan, I have taught history at Miami University since 1992. My research focuses on rural politics in northwest Germany.
I am completing a monograph for Bloomsbury Press, Anti-Semitism and Rural Politics, which will appear in Fall 2026. You can follow this project at peasantsandjews.org.
Along with a former student, Mark Sadler, I published a book of primary documents on the Stab-in-the-Back Myth, also from Bloomsbury Press.
In my career at Miami, I have taught numerous upper-division courses in European history since 1750. Now entering the latter years of my career, I have decided to focus on the Western Civilization survey. With the new millennium, I became evermore interested in using the Internet to deepen student learning. See my ongoing course blog, Thoughts on Western Civilization.
