Introduction
Dr. Keisuke Kimura is an Assistant Professor of Applied Communication and Critical Race and Ethnic Studies in the Department of Interdisciplinary and Communication Studies. His research and teaching interests revolve around Critical Intercultural and International Studies, Politics of Identity, Race, Gender and Sexuality, Digital Media, Japanese Popular Culture, and Transnationalism. His single and co-authored recent work can be found in Journal of International and Intercultural Communication, Journal of Intercultural Communication Research, Journal of Hate Studies, and QED: A Journal in GLBTQ Worldmaking.

Research Interests
As a researcher, Dr. Kimura is passionate in challenging the sociohistorical structures of power that continuously maintain and reinforce positionalities of privilege and marginalization. In studying politics of identity, space/place, and communication, he centralizes the body as an essential site of knowledge that elucidates nuanced, contradicting, and relational dynamics of everyday communications and contexts.
Teaching Approaches
As a teacher, Dr. Kimura values critical thinking and dialogue for students to apply their knowledge in real-world situations which fosters an in-depth understanding of the “self” and relationally between self, others, and society. His pedagogical commitment to a critical and cultural approach in Communication encourages students to carefully reflect and examine how culture, communication, and power are shaping and/or shaped by our everyday life. He strives for academic mentoring through cultivating meaningful relationships with students.
