Mission

Develop students as engaged citizens through transformative academic and co-curricular experiences that connect, inspire and challenge them to make a positive social impact.

Pillars

The Center for Social Impact’s foundation is built upon three pillars- Active Citizenship, Community-Based Learning, and Regional Stewardship.

Active Citizenship

Miami University Regionals is committed to building a culture of engagement on campus and in surrounding communities by fostering transformation through volunteerism, philanthropic initiatives, and democratic engagement. Through this, individuals develop insights, ideas and relationships that enable them to change the lives of those who live in their neighborhoods and nations for the better.

Current programs include- voter registration, debate series, Democracy Wall in Hamilton and Middletown, Citizenship & Democracy Week, Constitution Day, National Voter Registration Day, ComMUnity Connect, Days of Service, drives and collections, Alternative Spring Break and Stay-cation, Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Month, Presidential Service Award.

Community-Based Learning

Through community-driven experiential learning, our students cultivate their skills, scholarship, and passion to develop high-impact approaches to understand and address complex societal problems. Faculty across disciplines integrate rigorous coursework with real-world experience. Though projects and partnerships vary, all courses

  • Engage a community partner to critically examine a social problem or societal need
  • Integrate course objectives and community-based experiences
  • Produce reciprocal benefits for students, faculty, and community partners

Regional Stewardship

Miami University Regionals was created by the people for the people. Because of this, we have a rich history of commitment to Hamilton, Middletown, and more broadly, Butler County. Our leadership has embedded a regional orientation into daily campus life in various ways. On behalf of Miami University Regionals, the Center for Social Impact is committed to enhancing and deepening community relationships to create a more vital, viable, and engaged Butler County.

Programs

Service+

Service+ is an AmeriCorps program hosted by the Center for Social Impact. Continuing students from Miami University serve 450 hours as AmeriCorps members at host sites, which are premier nonprofits and government organizations in Butler County and surrounding communities. From August through May, AmeriCorps members advance the critical mission of their Service+ host site through specific capacity building activities identified and prioritized by organizational leaders.

ReFUEL

ReFUEL is a student resource center initiative, supported by Ohio Campus Compact AmeriCorps program and hosted by the Center for Social Impact at Miami University Regionals. ReFUEL connects students with campus and community resources to help address challenges to their academic success such as food, housing, finances, etc. ReFUEL also collaborates with campus and community partners in order to identify and address student needs.

AmeriCorps VISTA

As an AmeriCorps VISTA member, you will be placed in different roles to address university challenges where the need is greatest. Your placement will be in a professional office setting and help fight poverty while building professional skills and earning additional benefits.
