New Hours for Armstrong Student Center

Beginning August 22, 2019, Armstrong Student Center (ASC) hours will be 6:30 a.m. to 2 a.m, seven days a week. Food service will begin at 7 a.m.

Changes in the dining operation are necessary due to an overall shortage of staff. Pulley Diner will now be open daily from 7 a.m. – 2 a.m. This adjustment allows for the best possible customer service throughout the busiest times of the day.

During the five years that Armstrong Student Center has been open, overnight usage has remained minimal (typically fewer than three people in the building at any one time). With the change in Pulley Diner’s hours, the decision was made to close the building at 2 a.m. in order to maintain a safe facility for students and student staff. King Library continues to provide space on campus for studying 24/7.

“The Armstrong Student Center is committed to the safety and security of students,” explains Katie Wilson, director of the Armstrong Student Center. “Without food service open in the building, there are too few people in the building to maintain a safe environment. We will continue to focus our effort on providing a space that enhances the Miami University experience through the day and most of the night.”

“Although the situation was unexpected, I understand the decision to modify Armstrong’s hours in order to keep the best interests of students at heart,” said Megan Cremeans, president of the Armstrong Student Center Board. “Our student center will remain student-focused and the core of campus life.”

Alyssa Francis, student center board member and ASC summer building manager, notes that, “Armstrong has and will continue to be a cornerstone of the Miami Experience, and these new hours will aid our mission by placing more awareness on the health and safety of the students inside.”
