Welcome Weekend introduces all first-year students to key elements of Miami life, and the people, places, resources, and traditions that will help them pursue success inside and outside the classroom. From academic welcomes and convocation to the first Late Night Miami event, a large-scale service project, and learning the fight song, the weekend is packed with experiences that build connections as well as memories.
More than 300 events make up the full schedule of transition programs for first-year students, which extends through the first 50 days of the semester. Events are designed to facilitate positive academic and co-curricular transitions to college for new students.
“Welcome Weekend and First 50 Days is a magical time,” said Evelyn Covington, coordinator of orientation and transition programs. “It's a unique opportunity for new students to plant their feet firmly in what we hope are wonderful years of their lives.”

We’re most excited about the Love & Honor Celebration at Yager Stadium because new students will participate in campus traditions like singing the fight song and taking their class picture.”
“My hope for new students during Welcome Weekend & First 50 Days is that they will find the spaces and faces that make them feel at home,” said Covington. “Moreover, I hope that the experiences new students have during Welcome Weekend & First 50 Days affirm why they chose to attend Miami.”
