Beechwoods Hall

Beechwoods Hall is one of three new additions to Miami’s LEED certified (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) residence halls. Beechwoods is conveniently located next door to Western Dining Commons. Just short walking distances away are the Armstrong Student Center and the Farmer School of Business. A significant departure from Miami’s traditional residence hall floor plan design, Beechwoods Hall is comprised of 8 individual houses. Each house is full of student requested amenities. This hall is designed using the latest safety features, including fire alarm and suppression equipment and electronic door access.

Clawson Hall

Clawson Hall

Clawson Hall was named after Edith Clawson. She was a graduate of the Western College for Women in 1900 and was elected as the first representative on the Board of Trustees in 1933. In 1937 she was made a permanent member of the Board. Her gift to the University made the building of Clawson possible. Western Dining Commons is the nearest dining location. This location includes a market for your convenience.

Havighurst Hall

Havighurst Hall, was named for Walter E. and Marion Boyd Havighurst who were both English professors and authors. It was dedicated in honor of their literary accomplishments and their decades of love and support of the Western College for Women and Miami University. Walter authored many books including “The Miami Years”. Havighurst is located near Western Dining Commons.

McKee Hall

McKee Hall

McKee Hall was named after Leila S. McKee who was President of the Western College for Women from 1888-1904. She also served as a member of the Board of Trustees. The ‘New Hall’ was built during her administration and in 1917 it was named in honor of Mrs. McKee. This building was acquired as part of Miami University’s purchase of Western College in 1973. McKee Hall is close to Western Dining Commons.

Peabody Hall

Peabody Hall

Peabody Hall was named for Helen Peabody, who was the first principal and teacher of the Western Female Seminary from 1855-1888. She was a graduate of Mount Holyoke College, after which Western College for Women was fashioned. Peabody Hall is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This hall also holds the academic office for theIndividualized Studies: Western Program on the first floor. This unique building also houses Leonard Theatre, the Windate Writing Center, and 39° 84° West. Because of the many common areas in this building, students must use their Miami ID to access their individual residence floors for added security. The nearest dining location is Western Dining Commons.

Thomson Hall, built in 1963, was named for Mary Moore Dabney Thomson who served as the President of the Western College for Women from 1941-1045 and later became the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees. This hall underwent renovations in 2013. Students living in Thomson are able to enjoy the roof top sun deck, which is exclusive to this building.
