The Department of Justice and Community Studies is pleased to announce the following awards and scholarships.

Corporal Olivas Valor Award

These scholarships are awarded to one or more students majoring in Criminal Justice.  Preference given to students who have previously served or are currently serving in the United States armed forces.

Criteria for application submission:

  1. Declared major in criminal justice (BSCJ or AASCJ)
  2. A three (3) page essay that describes why the student is deserving of the award and a description of their previous or current military experience
  3. Completed a minimum of 15 hours at Miami Regionals with a 2.5 gpa or higher
  4. Demonstrate interest in future employment and/or leadership within the field of criminal justice
  5. Provide a copy of their Degree Audit Report (DAR)
  6. Scholarship Application

Application Deadline is March 15, 2018Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.


Study Abroad Scholarships

Hamilton Community Foundation 
Justice and Law in Samoa

The scholarship awards decisions to study law and justice in Samoa through the Justice and Community Studies Department at Miami University Regionals will be based upon financial need, academic goals, and academic achievement.

To be eligible, you must:

  1. Have a 2.5 GPA or higher
  2. Be enrolled in CJS 499/ CJS 599
  3. Meet the Miami University prerequisites to study abroad

Application Process

  • Complete scholarship application
  • Provide the following documents:
    1. Degree Audit Report (DAR)
    2. Official Transcript
    3. Student Aid Report (SAR) as a result of filing the FAFSA
    4. Minimum 800 word essay that explains why you want to study abroad

Application and all supporting documents must be submitted to Katie Braswell, VP at the Hamilton Community Foundation by either email at kbraswell@hamiltonfoundation.org or mail to the Foundation at 319 North Third Street, Hamilton, OH 45011.

Return completed application with supporting documentation by March 1, 2018.
